How can we support those affected by heart disease?
Heart disease is the leading cause of death (every 1 in 4) in the United States. The most common type is Coronary heart disease, killing over 370, 000 people annually. The main risk factors of heart disease are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking - where 47% of Americans have at least one of these three risk factors.
Chances of survival are much greater when emergency treatment begins right away, which is possible due to early detection. Recent studies show that only 27% of chest pain symptoms were treated as an emergency by calling 9-1-1.
